Plan ahead for Christmas lawn mowing

If you want your lawns looking their best for Christmas day, you’d better plan ahead and book your lawn mowing professional early. If you leave it to the last minute you could end up paying twice as much as you normally would, if you can even find someone who is not booked out. Also don’t …

March 2014 – Grass growing madly

Don’t let your lawns grow out of control…. With 2014 now in full swing and the grass growing madly at the moment, it is really important that you keep on top of things to avoid your yard becoming a jungle. Many lawns are now becoming unmanageable if left just 14 days between mows. So unfortunately, …

Fair Dinkum Lawn & Garden Care

Just a quick tip. If your lawns are still patchy after the drenching a couple of weeks ago, it's probably more than just the previous hot dry conditions knocking them around. There's a good chance they are being eaten by something.

The three main culprits I have seen in recent weeks are black beetle, army worm and black crickets. Though I strongly suspect the latter two.

I've had success in the past with Yates Baythroid which will kill armyworm, black beetle (but not the larvae) and crickets among other insects. Other lawn grub treatments should also do the job. But always read the label carefully and follow the instructions when dealing with any pesticides.

And bare in mind that you will probably need a follow up treatment or two.

Now that we've had a bit of rain you are probably noticing your lawn, that you thought was dead, is coming back to life.

But, don't wait until it gets long before you start mowing again. The best thing you can do now is to give it a light mow and get back into your regular mowing schedule.

You can also give ita bit of fertiliser and/or some seaweed solution. Seasol Powerfeed is great stuff.

With water restrictions still in place, something like Scott's Lawn Builder is a good option for fertiliser, because you can just throw it down and wait for rain. It doesn't have to be watered in right away.

And if you need any help with anything feel free to send me a text or give me a call on 0407 435 642
